Step into the world of hairdressing and empowerment as we sit down with Mia Dellicompagni, a trailblazer in the industry and one of the driving forces behind the success of Francesco Hair Salons. With a journey deeply rooted in family heritage and a passion for excellence, Mia’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and unwavering dedication.

Can you share a bit about your journey into the world of hairdressing and business?
My journey began at a young age, growing up in the vibrant atmosphere of Francesco Hair Salons. Immersed in the world of hair and business from the start, I joined the group in 1992 during the heyday of hairdressing in the ’90s. It was an exciting time, filled with creativity and innovation.
What are some key lessons you’ve learned along the way?
One crucial lesson is the importance of investing in people. Without a dedicated team, we have nothing. Education has always been a cornerstone, ingrained in every aspect of our operations. Additionally, I’ve learned the value of adaptability and resilience in the face of challenges.
Mia Dellicompagni – Francesco Hair Salon Managing Director
You’ve had various roles within the company. Can you tell us about them?
Absolutely! I began with creative direction, winning competitions and leading the Francesco Hair Advanced Academy. Over time, I delved into the business side, taking on franchised salons and eventually joining the family at the helm of the Holdings Company. Each role presented its own set of challenges and opportunities, contributing to my growth and development as a leader.
How do you navigate challenges as a woman in the industry?
Fortunately, I’ve been blessed to work in a mixed-gender industry with minimal challenges. However, overcoming biases, such as clients preferring male hairstylists, remains an ongoing endeavour. I approach these challenges with confidence and professionalism, focusing on delivering exceptional service and exceeding client expectations.
What strategies do you employ to ensure your brand remains a market leader?
We prioritise progress and development, ensuring a creative team drives our education initiatives. Regular reviews cover every aspect of our business, from head office support to franchisees, ensuring we stay ahead of the curve. Additionally, we leverage technology to enhance the customer experience and streamline operations.

How do you support women within your company and beyond?
We’re committed to supporting women at all stages of their lives. Our marketing and education teams focus on women’s hair health, addressing concerns from postpartum to menopause. Additionally, our salons serve as community hubs, engaging with local charities and initiatives. We also provide mentorship and development opportunities for women within our organisation, empowering them to succeed in their careers. With our high staff retention rates, we witness the growth of many female team members from their teenage years to adulthood. We prioritise supporting them through various life stages, including motherhood, by facilitating a work-life balance and providing resources to support their families. Addressing mental health, mentoring, and HR concerns is integral to our support structure for women.
What’s your vision for the future of Francesco Hair Salons?
We aim to continue our legacy of empowerment and advocacy, equipping our team members with the tools they need to thrive. As a family brand, education and support will always remain at the forefront of our mission. Looking ahead, we aspire to expand our reach while staying true to our core values of excellence, integrity, and innovation.
