6 things your hairdresser should be asking during your consultation and service.
There are many factors that can affect the outcome of your desired dream cut and colour, and unfortunately, we don’t all have hair like Michelle Keagan!
Let’s face it, a visit to the hairdressers should be a fabulous experience, you want to be in love with the result. So how do you know if you’ve picked a good salon that can really make your dream look your reality?
Before we get into it, do your research! There’s a lot to be said for a salon with genuine five-star reviews… the more the better… the customer never lies!
1. How do you feel about the condition of your hair?
You know your hair; you see it and feel it every day. Your hairdresser should be interested in what your thoughts and feelings are towards your hair, to ensure they are helping to give you the best result possible. They should spend time really evaluating what is the cause of any concerns you may have and share with you how to make the very best of your hair, now and in the future.
2. How is your scalp feeling, have you any sensitivities or concerns?
Whether it’s a full colour service, or a cut and blow-dry, you may have different chemicals used on your scalp during your visit to the salon. Your hairdresser needs to make sure that they aren’t using anything that will irritate a pre-existing condition, or heaven forbid make it worse! Never allow a hairdresser to apply colour to your hair without a proper skin patch test before.
3. What do you use at home?
To understand the condition of your hair now, and to maintain your new mane, your stylist should be asking what products you’re using at home. This should not be the opportunity to pressure you into buying more, but to ensure you’re using the right hair care and treatments for your hair type, to really maximise the gorgeousness of your hair.
4. How do you wear your hair?
This is more important than you think! For example, if you’re having foils, your hairdresser needs to know if you like to change your parting position, or if you wear your hair up in a high pony, to ensure the colour is blended to reflect the style… no one wants stripy looking patches on the side of their head. Equally, if you must wear your hair tied back for work, a short, choppy bob is not the style for you.
5. Do you have and photo references?
Pictures of your cut and colour inspiration are always helpful. This helps your hairdresser understand your desired look. One word of warning; your hairdresser shouldn’t ever promise you they can get you looking exactly like your reference photo. The way a style sits, or a colour takes to your hair completely depends on the condition, hair type and hair history of your own hair.
6. How do you want to feel when you leave the salon?
A biggy! After all, what did you head to the salon for? The end result and the way you feel should be your stylist’s top priority.
